We Will Answer to God as to How We Used Our Gifts
Fr Michael Rasicci’s homily for the 25th Sunday after Pentecost, 11/19/2023, Calvary Episcopal Church, Batavia, IL
In today’s Gospel (Matthew 25), Jesus tells the parable of three slaves (indentured servants) who were given a sum of money to care for while their master was away. One invested and doubled his master’s money, the second also invested and doubled the amount he had been given. The third buried the money and gave it back. The first two were rewarded by the master on his return and the third was punished.
We have been given gifts and a purpose in life–to become more Christlike in thought, word, and deed. At some point, we will answer to God (our “master”) for how we used our gifts to fulfill our purpose.
