Baptism of Our Lord, Jesus Christ
Fr Michael Rasicci’s homily for the 1st Sunday after the Epiphany, 01/07/2024, Baptism of Our Lord, Jesus Christ.
In the Episcopal church, topics do not follow a chronology. At the Epiphany (this year January 6th), Jesus Christ is acknowledged by the gentiles in the form of the three Magi from the East. Today we celebrate Jesus’ baptism by His cousin, John. After he was baptized, the heavens opened and Spirit–in the form of a dove–landed on Jesus and God’s voice spoke highly of his beloved son (see Mark 1: 4-11). God is further affirming Christ’s role in salvation. We, too, need to keep manifesting Christ in our awareness.
(Readings: Genesis 1:1-5; Psalm 29; Acts 19:1-7; Mark 1:4-11)
