Fr Michael Rasicci’s homily for the 2nd Sunday of Advent, 12/08/2024–Calvary Episcopal Church, Batavia, IL.
In the Canticle for today’s service, the Song of Zechariah, he speaks about his son, John, the Baptist. When the angel told Zechariah that he would have a son, Zechariah didn’t believe him and lost his ability to speak until his son, John, was to be named after his birth.
For various reasons, given today’s society and both family and social concerns, we frequently hold back from sharing Christ–even from inviting others to join us for worship and communion here at Calvary. Christ’s message is still very important and, as baptised Christians and members of Christ’s body here on Earth, we are the ones to be sharing about Christ and his message. We need to find ways to bring forward Christ’s presence in our lives, enabling us to share Christ with more people.
(Readings: Baruch 5:1-9; Canticle 16 – The Song of Zechariah; Philippians 1:3-11; Luke 3:1-6)
