In today's Gospel (Matthew 25), Jesus speaks about judgment day when sheep will be separated from goats. Those who show kindness, mercy, caring "to the least of these" are rewarded with eternal life. Those who fail to show kindness, mercy, caring "to the least of these" will burn into eternal punishment. In today's Gospel, Jesus tells his disciples to keep awake--they don't know the day or the hour that Jesus will come again in glory and all will be taken up to heaven. At the time, believers thought that it would happen in their lifetimes. Today we still don't know. In today's Gospel, Jesus's response to Peter stands in direct contrast with Jesus's response to Peter last week after Peter shares that Jesus is the Son of God and the Messiah.
