Fr Michael Rasicci’s homily for this 27th (Last) Sunday after Pentecost, Christ the King Sunday.
In today’s Gospel (John 18:33-37), Pilate asks Jesus if He is a king. Jesus replies that, “my kingdom is not of this world.”
In 1925, the Pope proclaimed the last Sunday after Pentecost as “Christ the King Sunday.” After World War I, many European nations were facing growing Communism and unrest. The Pope wanted Christians to remember that Christ is King above all.
Through our baptism, we are members of the body of Christ. We are called to share in Christ’s life and mission throughout the world.
(Readings: 2 Samuel 23:1-7; Psalm 132:1-19; Revelation 1:4b-8; John 18:33-37)
