November 22, 2016
Dear Friends in Christ:
Last spring, I invited you to give generously to the Bishop’s Appeal to “grow the miracles” in our congregations, our communities and the world, and you responded with unprecedented grace and generosity. I am humbled and incredibly grateful for your generous gifts and for the abundance we experience in our life in Christ.
In the past year we have celebrated the Eucharist, in remembrance of Christ, more than 7,000 times. We have ordained seven deacons and priests from among our congregations. Again, this year, we had the privilege of welcoming a new parish at diocesan convention, as All Saints, Moline, moved from mission to parish status. We have adapted to the realities of the church in the 21st century, seeking always to ensure that the resources of the diocese remain focused on mission and ministry at the local level. And, most importantly, we responded to God’s call to care for one another when we served those who needed to be fed or clothed, housed, comforted or, very simply, loved. All of this we have shared together and I am very grateful for your part in all of it.
In thanksgiving for all of these things, in thanksgiving for you, I will make my year-end gift to the Bishop’s Appeal. I encourage you to consider prayerfully the things for which you are grateful and, as you make your year-end gift online, make note of them in the memo field.
